I used to be slightly unadventurous when it came to food. I liked what I liked and that was that. I wasn’t open to trying new things. A meal like this would have NEVER happened at our house a few years ago. I used to think that fish was not so great! About a year ago we were at a friend’s house and they made salmon…I was not so excited about it, but decided to try it. I ended up loving it, and we’ve been eating salmon ever since!
We’ve been talking about making cedar plank grilled salmon for a while, but kept forgetting to buy cedar planks! I was at the seafood counter this weekend and they had some sitting right next to it, so we grabbed them.
After a few hours soaking the plank so it wouldn’t catch on fire, we were on our way! I stuck with a simple recipe that we use a lot when grilling or pan frying salmon because I knew we liked it and didn’t want to screw this up!
Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon
-1 pound salmon
-Salt and Pepper
-1/4 cup brown sugar
-1/4 cup dijon mustard or Trader Joe’s Hot and Sweet Mustard
Soak your cedar plank for two hours in water prior to grilling. Heat grill to medium. Mix the brown sugar and mustard in a bowl.
Lay salmon on cedar plank. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spread mustard mixture on top of the salmon.
Grill at medium temperature for approximately 30 minutes until the salmon is done.
This salmon turned out to be very tasty! Our whole family loved it. I’m glad we tried the cedar planks because it gave the salmon a hint of a smoky flavor that enhanced the salmon nicely!
I hope you are having a fabulous week…it’s already Wednesday! This week is flying!
