Crispy Sugar Cookies

We are going old school today…way old school.  To a recipe that is older than I am.

The note at the end of the recipe that I modified said that this recipe is very old, so that you should be prepared for an extremely crispy cookie.  It didn’t disappoint.

My mom used to make crispy sugar cookies when I was younger and they were the bomb.  I tried to get the exact recipe she used, but she can’t find it!  Eek!  So, to the church cookbook from 1985 she went.  She found one that was similar to hers.  I tweaked it a bit and came out with a fantastic cookie!

Let me warn you, this isn’t a cookie that is filled with all sorts of health food ingredients.  So, if you are looking for something that will healthify your life, you might want to stop reading.  If you are looking for one of the best crispy sugar cookies EVER, continue on!

Crispy Sugar Cookies

Crispy Sugar Cookies

-1 cup powdered sugar

-1 cup granulated sugar + extra sugar for pressing cookies

-2 sticks butter (softened)

-1 cup vegetable oil

-2 eggs (beaten)

-4 1/4 cup flour

-1 teaspoon baking soda

-1/2 teaspoon salt

-1 teaspoon vanilla

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.

In the bowl of your mixer, cream together granulated sugar, powdered sugar, and butter.  After mixed, add eggs, oil and vanilla.

Add half of the flour mixture to the wet mixture.  When mixed in, add the rest of the flour mixture. Mix until ingredients are combined.

Roll dough into small balls. I used a tablespoon to get the right amount of dough out of the bowl.  Roll the dough into a ball.  Place balls on a parchment lined baking sheet.  Using a glass or measuring cup whose bottom has been dipped in sugar, press the balls of dough flat.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Allow cookies to cool on a wire rack.

Serve with a nice, cold glass of milk.  You won’t regret this choice!

Eating these reminded me of being younger and chowing down on these as soon as they were cooled and my mom would let us get our hands on them!

Instead of me waiting to get my hands on them, my two littles were waiting to get their little hands on them!  These cookies are crispy and crumbly as soon as you bite into them!

I hope the week is going well.  I know it’s only Wednesday, but I am already looking forward to the weekend.  Yesterday was one of those LONG days that you don’t want to have very often!  Here’s hoping that today is MUCH better!

  1. Love old recipes – they are the best! My MIL makes one like this and she does a little egg glaze on top…sooo good! These look wonderful and I love that it uses 2 sticks of butter and oil – I wonder if the oil makes them crispy??

  2. These are almost identical to the sugar cookies my husband’s grandma makes, she adds cream of tartar and just a little bit of almond extract to her recipe. Yours look wonderful!
