Let’s talk breakfast…

I’m not a huge breakfast eater.  Yup, I said it.  And yes, I know that breakfast is the single most important meal of the day.  I just don’t like to eat right after I wake up.  I’m ready for breakfast at about 10.  And at that point I’m at work in the middle of teaching a class, so breakfast usually ends up being a granola bar that I inhale during passing time.  I’m classy like that.

On the weekend though, breakfast is made and eaten and enjoyed because I can make breakfast while drinking a cup of coffee after waking up at a time that is not ridiculously early.

One of my all time breakfasts to make is biscuits and gravy.  As I was making this last weekend, I realized that I have never written about this deliciousness on my blog.

So, in order to make up for that, here’s a recipe and a few pics.

BiscuitsandGravy

Biscuits and Gravy

-1 pound of sausage

-1/4 cup flour

-4 cups milk

-salt and pepper to taste

-6 biscuits (You can use frozen, from the tube, homemade or from baking mix.  Mine came from baking mix because that was easy!)

Brown the sausage.  When sausage has browned, add in 1/4 cup flour.  Mix flour and sausage together and allow to warm for about a minute.  Add milk and mix everything together.  Allow mixture to warm through and get bubbly.  Add a little pepper and a little salt.  Taste and see if you want some more.  Add more if you do!  Make sure you occasionally stir this.  The gravy will thicken.  When the gravy has thickened to your desired consistency, spoon over biscuits and enjoy!

If you really want to live on the wild side, make an over easy egg and put in on the top of the biscuits and gravy…you won’t regret it!

  9. Can you believe I have never had sausage gravy??? That is just weird. This sounds like a great b’fast for dinner option. I wake up starving in the AM. I have the same problem though. I am usually too tired before I have had my proper amount of coffee to make much.
