Dippin’ burgers…

About a month ago Foodbuzz sent an email about inventing a recipe using one of New Belgium’s beers in a recipe.  I mentioned this to the Good Eats Guy and you would have thought it was Christmas by his reaction!

You see, he’s a big fan of New Belgium beers.  Once upon a time (okay, just a few years ago) you weren’t able to buy New Belgium beer in Iowa, but you could buy it in Nebraska. Thankfully my father lived in Nebraska, so every time we’d go to visit him or he’d visit us, cases of Fat Tire would be bought for the Good Eats Guy.  He’d then ration and hoard them to last until the next visit!  Did I mention that he loved the stuff?!

Thankfully it is currently sold in more areas and we don’t have to drive to Nebraska to pick some up!  :)

So when I told him about this, his eyes got all big and he told me that we absolutely needed to come up with a recipe using one of their beers!

He headed to the store and came back with this.

We chose to use the 1554 flavor and make a glaze for burgers.  We just went ahead and sampled the rest of the flavors, of course!  As we talked, we decided that we were going to make a dipping sauce.  I was a little against this idea as I wasn’t sure I wanted to dip a burger, but I was then reminded about how much I love French Dips and never have a problem dipping those, so we went for it.

Have you ever dipped a hamburger?

1554 Dipping Sauce

You’ll need…

-one bottle of 1554

-1/2 c. brown sugar

-1/3 c. honey

-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

Place all of this in a pan and let cook until it starts to thicken.  I then brought it to a boil and let sit for 5 minutes.

Place in small bowls and serve with burgers!

Dip away!

This was really good.  I was leery about this turning out at first and wasn’t sold about dipping a burger, but it was a fun and tasty meal in the end!  We made this meal twice in a two week period.  I wanted to make sure it was a keeper before I shared it with you….it is! :)

The Good Eats Guy was incredibly pleased with this meal.  He loves to use different beers to flavor foods!  We’ll be rotating this recipe into our summer grilling!

I hope that you had a great Saturday!
