In our house when it’s your birthday, you get doughnuts for breakfast. See, we used to live in a town that had a Casey’s gas station in it. Casey’s has some rocking good doughnuts. If you ever drive past one, stop in and get a chocolate frosted cake doughnut with sprinkles on it. And a glazed with chocolate icing. You’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven. Oh, and order a breakfast pizza or a regular pizza while you are there…you won’t be sorry.
Anyways, back to my story. Breakfast doughnuts have become a tradition. This is our first year living without a Casey’s near us and I didn’t know what I was going to do if I couldn’t buy breakfast doughnuts for the girls! So, I searched all over and couldn’t find a doughnut pan in any of my stores. I then hopped on Amazon and found exactly what I needed. I stuck that pan into my cart and overnighted that sucker to my house. We had a birthday to celebrate today and I needed doughnuts. Yes, I know. I could have just gone to the grocery store, but let’s be real. I have been pining for a doughnut pan and this was the perfect excuse to have one!
Do you have a doughnut pan!?
Needless to say my doughnut pan and I are now good pals. We made some good doughnuts last night. I see us having a lovely future together and inventing many things!
See?!?!
I even covered them in pretty star sprinkles.
When you live in a house with two girls, purple doughnuts with star sprinkles were the first obvious choice to make.
I followed this recipe to make these lovely doughnuts happen.
Baked Cake Doughnuts
-2 c. flour
-3/4 c. sugar
-2 teaspoons baking powder
-1/4 teaspoon cinnamom
-1 teaspoon salt
-3/4 cup milk
-2 eggs beaten
-1 teaspoon vanilla
-1 Tablespoon softened butter
Mix the dry the dry ingredients together. Add the rest. Put mixture in doughnut pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Cool on a rack.
Glaze
-1/2 cup powdered sugar
-2 tablespoons hot water
-a little teeny bit of almond extract
-food coloring
Mix everything together. Add food coloring until desired color happens!
I mean, how can you not love something that looks this cute and is covered in star sprinkles?
This was just a great way to start a Wednesday morning!
I will be using this pan often, and yes, I will be making some more healthy doughnuts. But for the first time, I couldn’t really justify making a healthier doughnut!
If you could have a doughnut made of any flavors…what would it be?! Give me your best suggestions…that could be my next experiment!
I hope that Wednesday was fabulous for you! I’m pooped and should have been in bed an hour ago! :)

I found you through your comment on Biz’s Blog.
