I made buns…

Have you seen this video?!  It is so cute!

I just love they way they are having their very own conversation.  I always wanted to have twins…I didn’t and am not having more babies, but I thought it would be so much fun to watch them grow up together!  A lot of work, yes, but I always figured the benefits would outweigh the extra work!

Speaking of little ones, I surprised mine with this movie last night after school!  It was a hit.  We saw it in the theater, but the Good Eats Guy had to take the Littlest Miss out during the last 20 minutes because she was a hot mess.  He was happy that he finally got to see the end!

I don’t care if you have kids or not….you need to see Tangled!  It’s such a cute Disney movie…and I’m a sucker for Disney movies.  Needless to say, my children were mesmerized as the Little Miss has been waiting for this to come out since we saw it at the theater!

And while they were all mesmerized with this, I got to making dinner.  I knew we were having some sort of burgers with turkey and I had made homemade buns earlier this afternoon.

Hamburger Buns

-1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water

-2 tablespoons of yeast

-1/3 cup vegetable oil

-1/4 cup sugar

-1 teaspoon salt

-1 egg, beaten

-2 cups all purpose flour

-1 to 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

Dissolve yeast in warm water.  Add sugar and oil.  Let mixture sit for five minutes.  It’ll look like this after it sits.

Then add in the salt and egg.  Mix in.  Then add in the all purpose flour and 1 cup of the whole wheat flour.  Mix.  When the dough comes together, begin using your dough hook or start kneading for three to five minutes. Add in flour as needed at this point.  I added flour an 1/8 cup at a time.  Dough will become elastic. Separate and form into 8 rounds and place on a cookie sheet.  I lined mine with parchment because I love parchment paper…it makes life easy.  But you can grease the cookie sheet too!

Bake at 400 degrees for 8-12 minutes.  Mine took about 11 minutes to get browned on the top.  Let them cool on a wire rack.

Slice and enjoy!!

I ended up having to make these twice.  The first time I added WAY too much flour while kneading.  They were dense little hockey pucks that I am going to make croutons out of tomorrow.  The second time I didn’t add as much flour while kneading….MUCH better.  While I shaped the dough, it was still a little sticky, but I just greased my hands and it worked fine!!

I used these for dinner with stuffed turkey burgers (stuffed with mozzarella) and some potato wedges!

I swear there is a burger under there…

There we go!

It was a delish quick meal to have on a weeknight!!

And here’s a pic of the Little Miss and I as we were headed out after dinner!

She was rocking the pig-tails today!

Hope you had a great Wednesday!

I love that you made homemade hamburger buns. I don’t know why I don’t make more bread, it’s something that would be so worthwhile I imagine. And I could just freeze leftovers. Thanks for sharing

Part of me has always wanted twins as well. But one reason is that I want two kids and it would be great getting them both out with one shot. :) They would be extra work, but I am sure they would be a lot of fun too.

I LOVE Disney movies. A friend and I went to see Tangled in the theatre a couple of months ago and I loved it.

I just saw that video last night – it kills! I have a twin sister. Our cribs were right next to each other. Each night my parents would put us in separate beds, but we’d end up together by the morning – head to toe – maybe how we were in the womb?!

Love how she’s sporting the pig tails!!

I am a teacher, just like you. I used “Tangled” scenes in my German class while we were doing “fairytales.” We analysed how the movie turns the gender roles of a typical fairytale around. The kids loved it – and me, too! At age 27, I still can’t get enough of Disney movies :-)

  20. Fascinating blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your design. Cheers
